As Doctors we believe we have two main aims.
Firstly, we endeavour to practice quality medicine. This means we attempt to deal with the whole person rather than manage specific illnesses in isolation to the individual. It also means each Doctor establishes an ongoing relationship with their patients and maintains continuity of care whenever possible. We allow our patients to talk, not just listen. We invite timely reviews and conduct home visits as needed. We liaise with local community agencies.
Secondly, lifestyle management is critical in maintaining health and perspective. This means maintaining control over the work environment and demands on time. To this end each SPFM Doctor has interests outside of Medicine and this serves to improve our abilities as Doctors.
SPFM was the first accredited practice on the southern Mornington Peninsula and undergoes re-accreditation every three years. We see accreditation as an important contributor to both maintenance and improvement of practice standards. However, the main driver of standards in our practice is a committed group of GPs functioning well together.
Our current practice is to bill all patients privately, including Pensioners, Workcover and TAC. We charge a discounted fee to Pensioners and a further discount is generally applied to return visits within 2 weeks for the same medical condition. Bulk billing is applied at the Doctor’s discretion and is applied to all children under 16 years of age. Payment is expected at the time of consultation – cash, cheque or credit card.
Pathology and radiology are co-tenants of the building. Dorevitch Pathology has a collection centre with specimens analysed either in Frankston or Melbourne. Gippsland Imaging Group perform plain radiology and Mammography with films reported in Frankston.
Audiology and Psychology services are available on site.
Commensurate with our philosophy, appointments are for 15 minutes and “double-booking” is avoided where possible. Longer appointments are arranged where needed (procedures, counselling, medicals etc).
